This year, the seminar in Greece was held with great success on the 27.06.12 at the “Kostis Palamas” University of Athens (Akadimias Street 48 & Sina, Athens). Mr. George Koutsoukos, Senior Associate Lawyer of “KREMALIS – Law Firm” was responsible for the total preparation of the seminar and Dr. Dimitrios Kremalis, Partner of the law firm, was among the basic speakers of the seminar.
The topics of the seminar, due to the timeliness and the drastic alterations from the national crisis, were the following ones:
1. Cross-border healthcare: (outstanding) issues on the articulation between Regulation (ΕC) 883/2004 on the coordination of Social Security Systems and Directive 2011/24/ΕU on patients’ rights in cross-border healthcare
2. The impact of the Greek financial crisis on the mobility of workers
The seminar was attended by representatives from the Ministry of Employment and Social Security, the social security funds (OAEE, IKA, OGA), EOPYY, representatives of enterprises and lots of attorneys and legal counsels, so as to become aware of all the recent developments in the fields of social security law and health. Representatives of the European Commission and the University of Ghent announced the latest developments in the field of the distribution of workers. Contemporary issues, concerning the implementation of the new Regulations were discussed, demonstrating an appreciation of the extensive knowledge of the participants on European Right topics. Concurrently, there was a robust exchange of opinions between participants and speakers on practical issues which arise in their daily work.
Finally, at the end of the seminar, the participants expressed the big necessity to formulate a national network, dealing with all aspects of cross-border social security and health issues.
